S Subbiah, Senior Consultant

Mr S. Subbiah is a Chemical Engineer, with a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Madras University in the year 1972.

He is a senior professional with over 35 years of experience in Plant Operations, Process Engineering, Technical Services, Project Management and General Management in the Fertiliser and Heavy Chemicals industries.

From 1974 until 1987, he has worked in various capacities in the Phosphatic Fertiliser complex at SPIC, Tuticorin, India. It comprises a Sulphuric Acid plant, Phosphoric Acid plant based on the Di-hydrate process and two streams of Di-ammonium Phosphate. He was intimately connected with setting up the second stream of the DAP plant, with the conversion of the first plant to the Pipe-cross reactor process and in achieving sustained high capacity utilization of the plants.

He was next involved with revamping and stabilizing the operations of a Caustic Soda complex acquired by SPIC and with converting the unit to the Membrane process, from 1987 to 1996. Marketing was also revamped to enable IJC to become a supplier of high-quality acid to many fertilizer plants in India. The plant recorded the highest ever production of 112% of the rated capacity in the year 2002.

He has presented many technical papers on the Phosphatic fertilizer industry at various international seminars.

Post-retirement in 2009, Mr. Subbiah is based in Chennai, where he works as a consultant, specializing in Phosphatic fertilizer plants.
