Asokan S, Sr. Consultant
Mr S. Asokan is an engineering professional, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, with distinction, from Annamalai University in the year 1972.
He has 40 years of experience in conceptualization, basic design, detailed design engineering, engineering management, procurement, inspection & testing, installation, commissioning, project management, debottlenecking, revamp, failure analysis and repair, in the process industry.
After working briefly for Engineers India and BHEL, he has worked in the Fertiliser complex at SPIC, Tuticorin, India from 1973 until 1979. He was involved in the erection and inspection of the Ammonia, Urea, Sulphuric acid, Phosphoric acid and DAP plants of the complex. He set up the inspection group at the site for routine inspection and health monitoring of the plants, established procedures for inspection, testing and repair of critical equipment, in undertaking failure analysis, debottlenecking and maintenance overhaul of the plants.
From 1979 until 2001, as head of the project Inspection Department responsible for procurement inspection and site inspection at the SPIC corporate office in Chennai, he was involved with setting up the second DAP plant at Tuticorin, the Aluminium Fluoride plant, the Phosphoric acid complex of Indo-Jordan Chemicals at Jordan, the Ammonia-Urea plants in Dubai, the Ammonia and LPG importation terminals at Tuticorin, the modernization of the Tuticorin Ammonia plant, numerous projects for clients such as ONGC, Manali Petrochemicals and others in the Oil & Gas processing and Petrochemical areas.
From 2001 to 2011, he has worked for Technip India as Senior Vice-President (Projects) responsible for execution of projects on LSTK, LSS and LSSM basis. The projects executed cover detailed engineering services for Technip group projects in Egypt, Oman, Qatar, Iran, Russia and Saudi Arabia, Ethylene importation and VCM terminals for Chemplast, Essar Refinery expansion, various projects in the Oil & Gas sector, condition assessment and due diligence of a NPK plant in Dakar, Senegal, for a refinery to be relocated to India from Germany and for a caustic Soda plant in Egypt.
Post-retirement in 2012, Mr. Asokan is based in Chennai, where he works as an engineering and project consultant. His intimate knowledge and experience in various areas and in executing projects, in India and abroad, are sure to be of unique value to enable setting up large projects in the Fertiliser and Petrochemical industry.
