K S Goplalakrishnan, Senior Consultant

Mr. Gopalakrishnan holds a Bachelor of Technology (Instrumentation) degree from Madras Institute of Technology, Anna University, Chennai, India. He graduated in the year 1980, ranking First in Instrument Technology in the University.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan worked for 11 years, from August 1980, at Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation at its Fertiliser Complex in Tuticorin, and was responsible for the Instrumentation and Control System maintenance at the different plants in the Complex, rising up to become the Department Head.

He was then made responsible, as Chief Manager – Projects, for projects that were being executed in the modernisation of the SPIC Plants, such as retrofitting and upgrading many of the plant control systems including conversion from analog to DCS systems, handling Y2K transitions, etc, from 1992 until 2000. He moved to Jordan as the Production Manager, at SPIC’s JV there.

In Jordan, he played a key role as head of both Production and Maintenance in the Sulphuric and Phosphoric Acid plants. During this period, the plant achieved a record 112% capacity utilization. It was one of the lowest cost and highest quality producers of phos acid as well. He organized and completed five plant maintenance turnarounds, besides other expansion and augmentation projects, successfully.

On his return to India in May 2006, he was elevated to General Manager(Works) at SPIC, Tuticorin. His technical and managerial talents were then utilized at another group company, EDAC Automation Ltd., in 2009, where, as CEO, he revamped and developed the business strategy of the company, effecting a change in its fortunes. In the period from 2009 to 2012, he achieved a tenfold increase in the turnover of the company, with commensurate increase in profits.

Gopalakrishnan joined Bharath Coal Chemicals Ltd, a company that was setting up a coal-based Ammonia Plant in Paradeep, Orissa, in October 2012. As Head – Technical, he was responsible for many key areas of the project implementation.

Upon his retirement, Avantt has added him to its panel of professional experts and successfully utilized his expertise. Gopalakrishnan brings with him rich technical knowledge and managerial experience in running large chemical complexes, implementing new projects and achieving solid results.
