Dr. RM. Krishnan, Senior Consultant
Dr. Krishnan obtained his graduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the Madras University in 1970, followed by his Master’s degree from IIT, Madras in 1972. He later completed his doctorate studies and obtained his Ph.D. from Delft University in the Netherlands in 1988.
He has nearly 36 years of experience in project conceptualization, execution, commissioning and operation of Fertiliser and Petrochemical plants in India and abroad.
From 1972 until 1979 he was involved in the project execution, commissioning and operation of The Ammonia and Urea plants of SPIC at Tuticorin.
He then worked on Urea process simulation at McGill University in Canada and research on Urea process development in the Netherlands from 1979 until 1985. He was the first Indian to accomplish this task through a PhD research programme.
Dr. Krishnan led the R&D Division of SPIC from 1985 to 1992, when this centre for innovation won a number of awards.
After this, he moved to petrochemical projects and led a team in the process, selection, evaluation and execution of the PX-PTA-PFY Aromatics project of the SPIC-MRL joint venture AROCHEM. Later, he led the project team as Executive Director, when SPIC decided to implement the PTA-PFY project on its own. Subsequently, as Project Director, he was responsible for the financial closure, JV discussions and other project responsibilities, until his retirement.
He also managed the pre-project activities of the Normal Paraffin – Linear Alkyl Benzene project of Tamilnadu Petroproducts at Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
Post retirement, he is active on the boards of several companies.
